We often love to shop for a variety of clothes depending upon the occasion. Like women, men have also fondness of an organized wardrobe and with their collection of shirts to be taken care of properly.
When you invest on your favorite shirts you definitely want the shirt to last long in terms of quality and fabric.
Hence, today we share a few easy and convenient tips on how can you care for your shirts right from washing to storing at home.
Generally, the shirts spend more time in the wardrobe rather than on the back. So, let's discuss how they can be in good condition and look great when you put it on.
We all notice one thing about the shirts that the collars often curl which doesn't really look good. There are a few things that could be done to avoid the same.
First reason is generally humidity that causes collar to curl and change its shape. So, try to keep shirts in cool and dry place, away from humidity to reduce the risk of spoiling collar's shape. If at all, it happens too, try ironing at the collars to regain the shape.
Next, the collar also loses it shape when it rests in the washer or dryer for a long time after the spinning process is over. Hence, once spinning is over remove the shirt from the dryer and let the collar settle.
When, the shirt is allowed to hang for drying process or even if you are hanging it in your wardrobe, it's a wise idea to always keep the buttons fastened. Thus helps the shirt to retain its original shape and fit always and the curling risk is reduced.
One more important thing. Try always to wear shirts with right fit. If your collar is a little too tight around your neck, they’re more likely to curl and create that look that you really don’t want.
Now, let's share some washing tips:
Before putting your shirt for washing make sure of the stains and spills on the shirt. Check for the yellowness around the cuff and the collar too. These areas generally get prone to the stain and so they need some extra treatment. If you do spot a few of these marks, create a paste by mixing detergent and water and rub this in – leave it for two minutes and then put it in the wash. Try to avoid washing light clothes with dark ones, so the color quality of the shirt always retains the same.
Although you might think that you’re buying soft detergent, the chemicals can still be harmful to your shirt’s fabric – this is why you should turn your shirt inside out before putting it in the washing machine.
Always, take care that the shirts and cuffs are unbuttoned before they are washed, so the buttons doesn't become loose.
Similarly, always wash them at mild temperatures with mild detergents. The hot temperatures of a washing machine can be harmful for a shirt and lead to crinkling and misshaping.
While hanging your shirts just be careful that your shirts aren't all cramped together. If they don’t have space between them, the shape of the shirt can become distorted meaning they will no longer be as fitted.
When you come to iron your dress shirt before wearing it, it’s best to steam it whilst it’s still damp. Begin with the underside of your collar and iron from the outside to the centre – keep the outer corner nice and taut.
When it comes to ironing, you should still be extra careful. Always iron shirts when they are still damp, perhaps take them off the line before they’re fully dry. Use a steam iron too if possible as this keeps the material moist. Avoid ironing over the buttons whenever possible, they can become damaged and crack under the heat of an iron.
